Clean Air Day 20 June 2019

by prestwichfocus on 17 June, 2019

This week is national Clean Air Day – a day to raise awareness about the need to tackle air pollution.

In Greater Manchester, there is a whole week of initiatives to raise awareness about the issue and make positive steps to tackle air pollution.

This year’s theme is ‘walk or cycle short journeys’. Organisers say: “Did you know that every year 200 million journeys of one kilometre or less across Greater Manchester are made in a car? That’s a four-minute bike ride or a 10-minute walk.

If you made more of those journeys on foot or by bike, you’d not only arrive at your destination feeling more energised and refreshed, you’d be helping to make a big difference to air quality. Even changing just one journey a week make a difference.”

In Bury we five schools are taking part and there is a sustainable journeys event on the Rock on Wednesday 19th June 11am to 3pm to which you are welcome to visit.
